Apply Now for a Work, Intern, or Volunteer Program

Before you commit your time and energy to travel across the world to teach English in another country, why not get some first-hand experience in the Twin Cities? Teaching English to immigrant and refugee populations is a great opportunity. Volunteer teaching can help you decide if teaching English is for you and prepare you for teaching in another country. In addition to Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certification, actual teaching experience is perhaps the most important qualification that employers are looking for when choosing among candidates. There are many organizations and schools in the area where volunteers can gain experience teaching English.

Before volunteering in the Twin Cities, you might consider attending an ESL Pre-Service Training Session through the Minnesota Literacy Council. These 12-hour workshops introduce different teaching strategies and activities and help you to effectively manage a multi-level, culturally diverse classroom. Contact Suzanne McCurdy at 651.645.2277, ext. 218.
