Learning Abroad Center Advising Mission

Our mission as advisers is to assist you in the selection of a learning abroad program that is compatible with your academic, personal, developmental, and financial needs and goals.

You can expect your adviser to:

  • Express genuine interest in your goals for learning abroad and/or encourage you to define your goals
  • Be knowledgeable about Learning Abroad Center programs (academics, costs, application processes) or be able to refer you to colleagues or resources to obtain additional details
  • Help you identify programs that match your goals, interests, and abilities
  • Be willing to discuss openly your questions about being abroad related to safety, being a student of color, GLBT identity, religion, etc.
  • Guide you to develop your research, decision-making, and problem solving skills to select and plan for a learning abroad experience. These skills will serve you well while abroad
  • Prepare you with tools and resources to plan carefully with your academic adviser. This will ensure your learning abroad experience helps you reach your academic goals and make degree progress
  • Encourage you to fulfill your student expectations
